Bert Vickers

Bert Vickers was born on October 16, 1936 in Valdosta, GA. He was called home on Sunday, December 18, 2022. He grew up in Valdosta and Educated in the Georgia Public school system before relocating to New Brunswick, NJ. Bert, had a bright, sunny personality that shined in a positive and happy disposition, greeting all with a “smile on his face”. He was a very friendly person and always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to laugh and share funny stories. He was known for his love of playing cards, especially Bid Wiss being one of his favorites. A game of solitaire was always on the table, while home relaxing. On December 19, 1958, he married his childhood sweetheart, Ester Tice of Valdosta GA, and together raised two children, Dale and Stephanie. Residing in New Brunswick NJ for over 65 years. He was formerly employed at Art Colors Printing, Quaker Oats, Okinite Cable Company, and finally retiring from Continental Cans. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Johnnie Vickers Sr and Reatha Woods Vickers Newsome, stepfather Horace Newsome, two siblings (James Jones of Cleveland OH) and in-laws, Mary Alice Pearson (Ike Pearson), Johnnie Vickers Jr and Beatrice Vickers, and nephew Kenneth Vickers. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Ester Vickers, son Dale Vickers of New Brunswick, daughter Stephanie Vickers-Douse (Kerry) of Burlington, step grandsons (Kerry jr, Kadeem), a step great granddaughter (Gia), nephews, Wesley Walwyn of Avenel, Marvin Vickers of Monroe and Clarence Pearson of Tucson AZ; great nephew Nias Walwyn of Avenel; nieces, Lisa Walwyn of Avenel Cathy Vickers of Monroe and Natura Crump of Tucson AZ; God-daughter Monifa Horton, God-son Tyre Beal, Rena and Norwood Beal, cousins, relatives and friends. Prayer God saw you getting weary So he did what he thought best He came and stood beside you And whispered “Come and Rest” You wished no one a fond farewell Nor even said good-bye, You were gone before I knew it, And only God know why. When God called you to come and rest You didn’t go alone; For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
