Bruce Lawrence Dickerson

Bruce Lawrence Dickerson was born July 31, 1969 to the late Thaddeus Dickerson Jr and Rose Lee Dickerson(formerly Carpenter). He received his wings when he was called home on June 21, 2014. "Brucie" was baptized at Union Baptist Church of South River, NJ at an early age and sang in the Youth Choir and served on the Usher Board. He attended Livingston and A.C. Redshaw elementary schools and graduated from New Brunswick High School with honors in 1987. Although "Big Bruiser" as he was affectionately known, excelled in football, wrestling, track and field, outdoor club, he also was a Peer Leader and belonged to Who's Who of America. He continually encouraged and guided the younger players coming up and forever impacted their lives. After graduation he played football with a scholarship to Howard University where their offensive and defensive lines were the heaviest in football throughout the entire country! "Pork Chop" as he was known by the Bison community was a caring teammate, roommate and friend to the students, faculty and fans who adored him. After college, he worked for Kimberly Clark in Spotswood, NJ for a few years and then returned to the DC Area where he met and married his soul mate the former Sophiea Jones in 1996. This union produced their princess Katherine who was the apple of his eye! The family moved back to NJ in 2001 and he began employment with Wegmans. Bruce always had a love for photography which bloomed his business Bruce Lawrence Photography. Brucie aka Big Bruiser aka Pork Chop was a mild mannered, sweet spirited, silly, generous, gentle giant who was there to encourage and uplift anyone he came in contact with. His infectious smile and bubbly personality would brighten any room and make you forget you were having a bad day. He leaves to cherish his memory; beloved wife Sophiea Jones-Dickerson; daughter Katherine Eva Rose Dickerson; Mother in Love Katherine Jones of Washington DC, brothers Byron A. Dickerson (Pamela) of West Palm Beach, FL, Henry O. Dickerson (April) of Netcong, NJ; Sister Jennifer E. Black of New Brunswick, NJ; Sister in Love Gail Jones of Wasgington, DC; Brother in Love Derrick Jones (Maxine) of Washington, DC;nephews Michael and Gabriel Dickerson of West Palm Beach, FL; nieces Zakiya Jones of Maryland, Kaitlyn E. Black of New Brunswick; Aunts Doreatha Carroll (Clinton) of Somerset, NJ, Florine Foster (Zachary) of South River, NJ, Diane Carpenter of North Brunswick NJ, Celeste Hargett of New Bern NC, Uncles James Carpenter(Sandy) of Perth Amboy NJ, John Carpenter(Paulette) of Lillington NC; a host of dear cousins, co-workers and friends.
