Carolyn Austin

Carolyn “Colleen”, daughter of the late Roosevelt and Pecola Jackson was born on February 10, 1932, in White Rock, Texas. While she slept peacefully, she was called home to rest on May 23, 2020. Carolyn was the eldest of 14 children. Carolyn was united in marriage to the late Johnnie Lee Austin on February 7, 1953, and they remained married until he was called to rest on August 12, 1995. Shortly, after marriage, they relocated to New Brunswick, New Jersey where they resided until relocating to Plainfield, New Jersey. Here, they purchased their first home. Carolyn worked briefly as an LPN but was fortunate enough that she was able to be a homemaker where she spent time taking care of her family. Carolyn gave her life to Christ at an early age and after moving to Plainfield, New Jersey, she became a Deaconess at Ruth Fellowship Ministries, under the leadership of Reverend Tracy L. Brown. Carolyn, affectionately known as “Nana,” was a kind and gentle soul with so much wisdom and love. She touched the lives of so many people and opened her door to everyone. She had a smile that would light up a room and she was loved by all who was blessed enough to know her. Carolyn loved to clean her house and cook good meals, and a good cook she was! In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Johnnie Lee Austin (aka Pop), four brothers, Gerald Lee, twins Roy and Troy and Willie; two sisters, Mae Lou and Carolyn. She loved her baby sister so much that she adopted her name. She leaves to celebrate her life, one daughter, Learline of New Jersey; three grandchildren, Antoine (Lisa) of North Carolina, Tonya and Erica both of New Jersey; four great-grandchildren, A’Nya and Garrett of New Jersey, Alyissa and Antoine, Jr. of North Carolina; five brothers, Cleveland (Verna), Roosevelt (Sheila) of Oklahoma, Louis (Shirley) of Illinois, Earl (Cathy) and Rodgers (Veranica) of Texas; two sisters, Bettye (Odell) and Martha of Texas; a special nephew, Derek; a special sister-in-law, Betty of Texas; three lifelong friends, Ms. Lois and Ms. Essie of New Jersey; Ms. Lillie Pearl of Tennessee and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain for the former things are passed away.” Revelations 21:4 Gone, but never forgotten.
