Charles A. Young of Somerset, NJ died June 22, 2023. All services were held July 6, 2023. Charles Alton Young was born March 18, 1969, to Dorothy Ann Young and Alfonso “A.J.” Jenkins in Somerset, NJ. He was affectionately known as “Charlie”, “Chaz”, or “Altie” to family and friends. Charles attended Franklin Township School System in Somerset from elementary through high school. He was a graduate of Franklin Township High School’s Class of 1987. After completing high school, Charles attended St. Augustine College in Raleigh, NC. Charles was an avid lover of health and wellness. All who knew him can affirm he had a profound love for the gym, exercise, and working on personal fitness goals. He took pride in his appearance and always being well groomed. He had even been scouted by several modeling agencies. He was also known to many in the community for his sharp barbering skills. He provided quality haircuts as a master barber for many over the course of numerous years. Charles resided in Somerset the majority of his life. He spent several years of his later adulthood residing in Atlanta, GA. He most recently resided in Tampa, FL until January 2023 before relocating back to the Somerset, NJ area. He was employed as a subcontractor for Lowes Home Improvement for multiple years while living in NJ. After having relocated to Tampa, FL he was most recently employed with Ferguson Enterprises where he worked in delivery and installations. Charles loved the Lord. He also had a love for music. During his childhood years, he participated in the music ministry at his church where he played the drums. He had many interests. He found joy and peace in being outdoors, taking nature walks, and other outdoor adventures. He enjoyed maintaining his cars in immaculate condition. He was also fond of animals, especially dogs. Charles was previously married to Elizabeth Smith. During that union, two daughters were born, Charlize Young and Alexis Young. Charles also has two other daughters, Adasyn Young and Liliana Mitchell-Young. Charles loved immensely and was loved by family, friends, colleagues, and many others that he encountered in his life’s journey. He was known to have a calm, soft spoken, and laid-back demeanor. He was always friendly and social upon approach. He had an engaging smile and sense of humor after you got to know him. Charles lived his life abundantly. Charles transitioned to his heavenly home on June 21, 2023 as a result of tragic car accident in Bridgewater, NJ. Charles was preceded in death by the recent passing of his mother Dorothy Ann (Young) McFadden in December of 2022. Other family members who preceded Charles in death include his bonus sister, Ashley Tannehill, his paternal aunt, Beverly Jenkins, and maternal uncles, Michael Young and Robert Young. Charles leaves to cherish his memory his children, Charlize Young and Alexis Young of Jensen Beach, FL, Adasyn Young of Atlanta, GA, and Liliana Mitchell-Young of Somerset, NJ; father, Alfonso “A.J.” Jenkins (Laverne) of Atlanta, GA; bonus father, Oral McFadden of Somerset, NJ; siblings, Kawanna Jenkins-Trigg (Dr. Raymond Trigg) of North Brunswick, NJ, Adarian Lawson (Michelle) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Amirah Jenkins and Sameka Rowe (Darren) of Atlanta, GA, Aaron McFadden of Horsham, PA, Mercedes McFadden of Somerset, NJ, Monique Elroy (Alex) of Somerset, NJ; aunts, Barbara Jenkins of North Brunswick, NJ and Diane Young James of Somerset, NJ; uncles, Rev. Charles E. Young of Edison, NJ, and Rev.
