Min. Cheryl E. Spells

Minister Cheryl E. Spells was born on December 10, 1952 to the late Ernest Miller and Dorothy Armstead in Newark, NJ. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Leroy Bobby Spells on August 14, 1972. To this union was born 12 children in which one, Eli Willie Spells preceded her in death. She was introduced to the late Bishop Bullock Colzie and the First Pentecostal Church of American Inc. through her husband, Leroy Spells. The later joined around the year 1972. Minister Spells immediately became very active in mission work, following lead as God agave guidance. She served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Whatever her hands saw to do, she did it. Fundraising for the church was another one of her many attributes. A true missionary, who worked with young people in the community as she was sell known for feeding them spiritually and naturally and taking them to church. Not only was she a mother to her children. She took many children into her home with support of her husband. She was later called into the Ministry and became an ordained Minister, preaching the gospel everywhere God commissioned her. She stayed her course even after her health began to fail. She said, “I trust God!” She was loved by many and has touched many, bringing theme to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. She is survived by her loving devoted husband, Leroy B. Spells, Somerset, NJ; 6 sons, Darien Miller, Bobby, Joseph, Robert (Maya), all of New Jersey and Shane Spells (Christine), of Georgia, and Mark Asby (Tyika) of South Carolina; 6 daughters, Sindy Kenley (George), Christine and April Spells, of New Jersey, Vernessa Spells of South Carolina and Carlett Spells of Georgia and Cheryl Davila of North Carolina, 2 children whom she raised as her own, Jason and Jahira Logan, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Keith Gillespie (Joan), Reese Gillespie of New Jersey and Scott Gillespie of Pennsylvania, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. “I’m praying for you” and “I just trust God” was not only imprinted in the daily words from the mouth of Minister Spells but it was the persona replicated in her daily walk. Her legacy in filled with bondages and curses broken in her family through her will to pray, believe and trust God. She earned the name “Danger on the Road” because her tenacity to always be running to help someone, especially her family. Minister Spells would aspire that each of us also PRAY for one another and know for yourself and TRUST GOD.
