Dorothy Mayo

Dorothy Mayo departed this life on May 4, 2025 at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was the youngest of 4 children born to the late William and Dollie Mickey. She was raised in South River, NJ, where she attended school and graduated from South River High School. Dorothy excelled in communication as English was her favorite subject. Dorothy had a gift of conversation, whether it be verbal or written, she always said what was on her mind. At an early age, Dorothy’s life was shaped by her faith and community, nurtured through her involvement with the Union Baptist Church, where she once served as a Sunday school teacher. Her favorite scripture was, Psalms 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life: of whom shall I be afraid?” Dorothy married the love of her life Charles Calvin Mayo on August 29, 1965, in that union they were blessed with 2 sons Corrie and Dean, together they built a home filled with love. Throughout her life, Dorothy balanced her dedication to family, with a strong work ethic and attention to maintaining her relationships with God, family and friends. Dorothy held various positions in the retail field over the years, her favorites were The Heather Shop, Sears and Roebuck as well as Pollster for R.H. Bruskin. Dorothy's passion for buying was greater, she had a good sense for fashion, and a collector of many different items. Dorothy's prolonged battle with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) didn't hinder her, she always kept a positive outlook on life and continued to travel until she couldn't no more. Dorothy will be remembered for her lively spirit and her unwavering love of cats. Her compassion and strength will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her. Dorothy was predeceased by her father, William Mickey, her mother Dollie Mickey, brothers Richard Mickey, Sr. (Colonia, NJ) and Thomas Mickey (Highland Park, NJ).
