The Obituary of Helen Leona DeLaine Williams “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4 One of God’s special children answered the Master’s call on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Capital Health Medical Center- Hopewell. Mrs. Helen Leona DeLaine Williams, loving daughter of the late Dr. Leonias and Leona DeLaine, of Greenville, Mississippi, and the late Mrs. Carrie McGill, of Manning, South Carolina. Helen Leona DeLaine Williams parents’ strong beliefs in education encouraged their children to strive for excellence in education. Helen received her primary and secondary education in the Orangeburg County School System. She proceeded to Philadelphia, PA and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation she met and married the late Carl F. Johnson and from that union they had two children, Karlton and Korey Johnson. During the early 1960’s Mrs. Williams relocated to Trenton, NJ to assist in the care for her ailing mother and to manage the family business, The DeLaine Hotel. She also found joy in working and giving service to the community. Because of her strong love for children and early educational interventions, she began her career as the Director of the Trenton Head Start Program. She later worked at the Hollowbrook Community Center in Ewing, NJ. Always concerned about the needs of other she was drawn to Collaborative Support Programs of New Jersey, Inc., where she later completed her career with retirement. It did not actually end there, she continued to do private consulting work from her home. Mrs. Williams early Christian foundation entrenched within her made it her life’s work to be of service to others. During her earlier years she was a member of St. Mary Cathedral Catholic Church. She later returned to her African Methodist Episcopal roots and joined Greater Mt. Zion AME Church. She was a member of the Lay Organization, Women’s Bible Study, and the Women’s Fellowship. Never declaring herself as a singer, she always enjoyed joining in singing and praising the Lord. Mrs. Williams found love later in life and it was the kind of love only one could dream of. Upon meeting and falling in love, she married the love of her life, Mr. Robert Williams. Robert was the perfect complement to Helen’s busy life. They loved one another as Christ loves the Church! Mrs. Williams was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter. She has been a member since 1962. She was an active member in community issues and an active advocate for equal rights for all mankind. On Saturday, August 21, 2021, the world got a little dimmer; however, heaven rejoiced because it welcomed home Helen Leona DeLaine Williams. She was released from a summer of pain and discomfort and is now resting in the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Mrs. Williams’ work and civic activities never interfered with her responsibilities for being a loving and affectionate wife to her husband, Robert Williams. Her nurturing abilities were lavishly poured on her two sons, Karlton (Chi) Johnson (Purcellville, VA) and Korey Johnson (Virginia Beach, VA). A mother’s love that surpassed all conditions trickling down to her four grandsons: Miles C. Johnson (Yuma, AZ), Maximillian C. Johnson (Virginia Beach, VA), Liam A. Johnson and Jeremy P. Johnson (Purcellville, VA). This unconditional love is also shared with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dr. and Mrs. Leonias DeLaine and Mrs. Carrie McGill. Her strong love for her sister was evident by their closeness who preceded her in death, Mrs. Willie O. Edwards. A special cousin that shared a sisterly bond, Mrs. Willie D. Townsend. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing!” II Timothy 4:7-8
