Rev. Dr. Hubert Roland Hunter Sr.

Trenton – Rev. Dr. Hubert Roland Hunter, Sr., 78, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA.Born in Fitzgerald, GA, he was educated in the Ben Hill Public School System, graduating in the top ten of his class. He received his early Christian training at Shiloh Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. After relocating to New Jersey in 1961, Dr. Hunter attended the C.H. Mason Bible Institute and graduated from Philadelphia Biblical University in 1979. He earned an Evangelical Advanced Teachers Training Certificate from Dallas Theological Seminary; and, on June 10, 2007 he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Jameson School of Theology in Philadelphia, PA.Dr. Hunter began his ministry in 1961 under the pastorate of Elder Clinton Love at Ebenezer Church of God in Christ. He was ordained under the leadership of Bishop Esau Courtney. He accepted the pastorate of St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in Hamilton and was ordained a Baptist Minister through the Middlesex Central Baptist Association on May 13, 1973. He served as the Shepherd of St. Phillips Baptist Church for 35 years.He served on several boards and committees: past Moderator of the Middlesex Central Baptist Assoc. of NJ, past President of the Middlesex Central Baptist Assoc. of NJ Congress of Christian Education, member of Middlesex Central Baptist Assoc. of New Jersey's Permanent Council, one of the founding members and past President of the Concerned Pastors and Ministers of Trenton and Vicinity, past President of the East Delaware Ministers and Deacons, member of the Pastoral Care Assoc. of St. Francis Medical Center, board member of Mercer County Alcohol and Drug Council, the Hamilton Ecumenical Assoc. and the YMCA Church Bowling League.Upon retiring from St. Phillips Baptist Church, he moved his membership to the Macedonia Baptist Church where he served faithfully on the Ministerial Staff.He was predeceased by his parents, Mathell and Eartha Hunter, one sister, Bernice Thomas and brother, Lawrence Hunter. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Rev. Lovie Irene; daughter, Deborah; sons, William Mathell (Susan), Edward Bernard (Marilyn) Hubert Roland, Jr. (Amanda); 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 7 sisters, Deotha Hines, Bobbie Jean Sharp, Theresa James, Audrey Hunter, Freda Hunter, Beverly Lee (Dr. Robert Lee) and Brenda Lunsford (Johnnie); 3 goddaughters, Sheri Les, Danielle Braggs and Yvette Carter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
