Joyce D. Taylor

Joyce D. Taylor, known as “Ms. Joyce to some and affectionately nicknamed “Joycie & Poncho” by others, was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on July 30, 1954 to the late Mr. Robert McBride & Ms. Sarah Mae Jackson, the youngest girl out of nine children. Joyce was blessed with four children of her own– Darryl (Janice) Taylor Jr., Audrey Taylor, Asialyn Reliford, & Darius Stembridge; three grandchildren Jayvon Taylor, Kobe Taylor & Zion Lewis. Her children and grandchildren alike believe that Joyce had superhero abilities. Her life was a testament of strength and overcoming adversity. Joyce spent the majority of her childhood and early adult life in South River, NJ. She graduated from South River High School in 1973 where she was an active peer leader and a passionate cheerleader. Following high school Joyce attended Delaware State University for nearly 2 years. Joyce gave birth to her 1st born son Darryl Taylor Jr in 1976 and shortly after married the late Darryl Taylor, Sr whom she called the love of her life. Joyce worked at many different companies and held a variety of job titles but her role as a CSS (Community Support Staff), caring for people with special needs is where she stayed. Joyce worked tirelessly for over 10 years as a CSS at Allies, Inc so that she could provide for her family whom she loved unconditionally. She took pride in giving to those in need, especially when it was one of her children or grandchildren. She loved her children unconditionally and always found a way to strong in the toughest situations, which is why her children endearing called her their ‘Super Hero’. On January 11, 2019, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ, Joyce traded in her Super Hero cape for a pair of Heaven’s perfect wings! She adored her nieces and nephews, as well as cherished her friendships. She was known for bringing laughter to all who knew her with her story telling, truth telling and her straight to the point remarks. She never shied away from telling you like it was! Her spirit was contagious and you felt her love and compassion in every hug and her strong voice. She has always loved to have a good time and was the shining light of the party and we are sure that’s how she wants to be remembered! Joyce was predeceased by her late husband, Darryl Taylor Sr; both of her parents, Robert McBride and Sarah Mae Jackson; niece, Brittiney Jackson; sister, Mary Jackson; brother, Robert (Jami) McBride Jr; sisters-in-law Teresa Kelly and Robin Jackson. Left to cherish her memory are her children,Darryl Taylor Jr., Audrey Taylor, Asialyn Reliford and Darius Stembridge; daughter-in-Law, Janice Taylor; three grandchildren, Jayvon Taylor, Kobe Taylor, and Zion Lewis; four sisters, Queen Roberts, Glenda Jackson, Marion McBride, Debra Yaminah Key; five brothers, Johnny Lee (Jacqueline) Jackson, John Jr. (Sandra) Jackson, Rogers Jackson, Kevin Jackson and Kenneth Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
