Karen Yvonne Heuston

Karen Yvonne Heuston, 60, was born in Brooklyn, New York, February 23, 1963, the second oldest child. She spent her early childhood in the Brownsville Section of Brooklyn, NY. At the age of eleven, Karen moved to Somerset, NJ. She was educated in the Franklin Township School District, graduating from Franklin High School. Karen went on to attend Middlesex County Vocational Technical School’s nursing program, earning a Practical Nursing certificate, passing the state licensing exam to become a License Practical Nurse. She worked as a nurse for many years in several care centers in the area. In 1996, she married Kevin Heuston. To that union was born one daughter, Ashely. Karen was a loving, caring, supportive mother to her five (5) children. She was a fiercely dedicated mother to her kids. Family was important to Karen. In addition to being a devoted mother, she was a loving daughter, considerate sister, and concerned aunt. Karen was passionate about helping people. She could be found on any given day helping someone in need. It didn’t matter what the need was, if Karen could help, she would. She was the type of person who always wanted to help and would give her last to anyone. Karen continued her journey, joining the Faith Tabernacle Church, Somerset, NJ, under the leadership of the late Bishop Horace Staton. Karen sang in the choir, ushered, and was a member of the Women’s ministry. When her health permitted, she was actively involved doing whatever her hands found to do. Ever in pursuit, Karen could be found in a Bible class, Sunday School, and prayer weekly; sometimes daily. She was a woman of strong faith. Karen had an undeniable zest for life. Her favorite thing to do was dance. If she had the choice to sit it out or dance, she would dance. She was the life of the party even if she was the only one on the dance floor. Karen loved to crochet in her free time. She started a small business, selling many of her creations online. Her favorite place to vacation was Florida. She had just returned from a family vacation, where she had the time of her life! She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Early in the morning of October 19th, 2023, Karen passed from labor to reward at HMH JFK University Medical Center, Edison, NJ. Karen is predeceased by her father Bernard Moore, and grandparents, Walter King and Willie “Billie King. She is survived by her husband Kevin Heuston; her five children: Wendy Arline (Bryan), Henry Schenck II, Raven Schenck, Kevin Murriel, and Ashley Heuston; a great-granddaughter, Kayala Daniels, a godson: Makai Bridgeforth; her mother, Brenda Winstead (James); three (3) sisters Cheryl Bridgeforth (Kenny); Nada Gilbert, Rosemary Jackson; beloved dog Lulu; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, and her church family.
