Lillie Mae Jackson

Lillie M. Alexander Jackson was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on June 14, 1939 to Willie and Frances Alexander. She peacefully transitioned from this life on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at Capital Health Regional Hospital. From an early age Lillie was active in church and Sunday School. She graduated from East End High School in 1956 and at the invitation of cousins Alton and Edith Hendricks, moved to Trenton, New Jersey where she remained throughout her adult life. On February 25, 1964, she married Steve George Jackson. Their union was blessed with two children; Shanan Malise Jackson and Steve G. Jackson Jr. (deceased). Lillie possessed an infectious laugh and great sense of humor. Her family brought her joy, and she especially loved being a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sports, especially football, basketball and tennis. She avidly followed her favorite teams and athletes, and loved to debate or discuss them with her friends and family. An avid reader, pop culture and politics enthusiast, she would read newspapers from Philadelphia, Trenton and New York as well as general weekly magazines and tabloids like Sports Illustrated, The Enquirer, Jet and Us Weekly each day. Lillie also enjoyed cooking, and was famous for her gumbo throughout her family. On weekends she could often be found shopping for bargains at local flea markets or entertaining friends at home with Steve. In 2005 Lillie retired from General Motors after which she enjoyed being active in her grandchildren’s lives. She also loved to attend church regularly until her health began to decline. Lillie is predeceased by her parents, Willie Lee and Frances Alexander; husband, Steve G. Jackson; son, Steve G. Jackson, Jr.; sister, Patsy Moore; and brother, James Kersey. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her daughter, Shanan Watkins of Ewing Twp.; two grandsons, Marcus Lewis and Jordan Watkins of Ewing Twp.; a granddaughter, Patsy Watkins of Reading, PA; three brothers, Al Alexander (Bettie), Robert Alexander (Carolyn), and Charles Alexander all of Richmond, VA.; one sister, Roslyn Johnson (Jerome) of Sicklerville, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Arlene L. Jackson, Ruth G. Jackson, and Deidra Sykes (Eugene); and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
