Obituary of the Late Monica Johnson Plainfield, New Jersey Monica Johnson passed away peacefully at St. Peters Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Monica was born on April 19, 1951 in Mayday, a small village in the Parish of Manchester, Jamaica. While still a toddler, her mother Elfreda Williams, returned with her to the family home in Blytheston, St James. Monica attended the Goodwill All-Age School, William Knibb High School in the city of Falmouth, and Branch Texas College in Montego Bay, St James. Monica was brilliant though unassuming. Her selfless service to the family was Noteworthy; without complaints, Monica cared for younger siblings and other children who were brought to the family home to be cared for. Her career led to international exposure as she served in different capacities in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry in Montego Bay, Jamaica. In 1984, Monica, migrated to Plainfield, New Jersey where she applied her skills as a distinguished employee in the cosmetics industry. Monica was admired by friends and associates as a trusted, dependable colleague; Her diligence on the job earned her the respect of people from varies walks of life. She was an excellent conversationalist who knew the family history as well as details of the lives of both family and friends. She never forgot her roots; so, she kept in contact with family and close friends daily. She may best be remembered for her sharp memory, kind deeds done for others, as well as her pleasant disposition Monica was predeceased by her father Sanford Johnson and younger brother Carlton Palmer. She is survived by her mother Elfreda Christie; siblings: Beverley Shields, Valda (Lorna) McBean, Cleveland (Bobby) Graham, Ricky Christie and Gary Christie. Her loving aunt Edna Higgins and children: Neville Williams, Maxine James, Jacqueline Higgins and Audrey Higgins-Barnes; her special cousins, Cynthia Davidson, Pansy Jarrett, Rudolph (Junior) Jarrett, Herlyn (Blossom) Fletcher and Geneva (Neva) Morgan, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Visitation and viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Somerset Presbyterian Church located at 100 John F. Kennedy (JFK) Boulevard, Somerset, NJ, 08863. Funeral service begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by interment at the Elmwood Cemetery, Georges Road, North Brunswick, New Jersey.
