Richard Warren Gaynor

Richard Warren Gaynor was born on March 27, 1941. He was the youngest of three children of the late Mary Jessup and Joseph Hubbard. H e was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. He was educated in the New York City public school system and graduated from Food Trades High School. After graduation he enrolled in the United States Army and proudly served his country as he fought in the Vietnam War as a CO in the 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Richard was employed as a bus driver with the New York City Transit System. He retired after 25 years of excellent service. He then began working at Suburban Bus service and retired from there as well. Lastly he worked for NADE as a part time driver. Richard and Roslyn were married, they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, they enjoyed vacations, and loved to entertain. Richard was always the life of the party, telling jokes and keeping everyone laughing. Richard and Roslyn loved to dance, Richard loved a variety of music, especially gospel. He enjoyed making music tapes and videos for all. He enjoyed Bobby Womack and Patti LaBelle and each time they had a new visitor he had to show it and his wife had to endure it. He was a member of St. Paul’s Baptist Church, NYC where he served as a as an usher, was ordained as a Deacon and worked with the young men encouraging them to go to school and mentored them. Richard and Roslyn joined First Baptist of Lincoln Gardens sometime between 1990 and 1992. They immediately joined the Sr. Usher Board and working with the Jr. Ushers, Richard also joined Church Chorus, because he loved to sing, he was a tenor but preferred baritone. He went on to join VOP, mass choir, and was a member of Kerygma under the direction of Beverly Mondey Collins. He led several songs Trouble Don’t last Always, and Oh Taste and See. His strong faith in God sustained him, through many his many years of illnesses. He fought a good fight and went from labor to reward on Tuesday, April 12th with his wife by his side. Richard was a wonderful husband and family man, father, grandfather, godfather, uncle, and true friend, He certainly left his mark on this earth. He leaves to cherish beautiful memories, his devoted wife Roslyn, daughters, Sherese Johnson of Richmond, VA (Bruce), Lorna Powers of New Windsor, NY, Diana Chapman of Yonkers (Mack) and Ranee Parker of the Bronx, NY(Paul); grandchildren Ebonne', Sekoria, Marquis, Krysasia, Diamond, and Pierce; one sister, Narvella Brown of Fayetteville, NC (Allen) and one brother Benjamin Gaynor of Palisades Pk., NJ (Marta); sisters- in -law, Carrie, Beatrice, Virginia, and Mary, a host of nieces and nephews whom he treated just like his children, and a host of cousins and friends that stretches as far as the eye can see. He will be sorely missed by all who have been in his presence. There will always be a void in our hearts consumed with love for Richard. We love you.
