Rosa McCeary Lane

Rosa (McCeary) Lane was born on September 19, 1953 in Barnwell, South Carolina to Rosa Lee McCeary. Rosa departed this life peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2017. Shortly after her birth, Rosa moved with her mother to Jersey City, New Jersey and was educated in the Jersey City school system, graduating from Lincoln High School. She chose to attend Douglas College at Rutgers University where she earned a degree in Mass Communications in 1975. During this same year, she was initiated as a charter member of the Iota Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Her love for the organization continued beyond her undergraduate years as she went on to join the NuXi Omega graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. During the summer of 1975, Rosa met the Love of her Life, John Marshall Lane. They married in the summer of 1982 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Their union produced a son, Justin Marshall Lane and created a blended family with daughter Erika Marie Lane and William Marshall Lane. In 1984, Rosa moved to Somerset, New Jersey where she worked as a Stay-At-Home Mom caring for her family. Over the next ten years, Rosa became active in Franklin Township’s school system, volunteering her time with PTA Committees and becoming a School Mom. This involvement piqued her interested in becoming a teacher. Rosa began her teaching career working as a substitute teacher throughout Franklin Township before becoming a sixth grade teacher at Franklin Park Elementary School and also at Sampson G. Smith Intermediate School. She loved the challenge of bringing overlooked children to their fullest potential. Rosa leaves to mourn, her husband, John Marshall Lane; son, Justin Marshall Lane; daughter, Erika Marie Lane; stepson, William Marshall Lane; mother, Rosa Lee McCeary; sister, Jacqueline Belcher; aunts, Juliet Faust of Fort Myers, FL, Geraldine Gardner of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Jaren M. Lane and Raegan J.
