Obituary Shirley Ramona (Lincoln) Billings “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 Sunrise Sunset December 30, 1929 January 27, 2025 On January 27, 2025, our all wise and loving God called home our beloved Shirley. She transitioned from Earth to Glory in her home surrounded by family. Even though she was taken from us, we know she has been made whole in the glorious kingdom with Lord and is happy. She lived a long, wonderful productive life and left a legacy of love, kindness and hope and a love of music and dancing that is a beacon of light for her family and friends. A lifelong resident of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, she was born on December 30, 1929, to the late Harold C. Lincoln, Sr, and Ethel (Riley) Lincoln(deceased) in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Shirley celebrated her birthday on New Years Eve. She was resolute that Dec. 31st is her actual birthdate as told to her by her parents and celebrated accordingly, so we always did so…she said, “the government mixed up the day on my records. You know they do not always get things right.” During her formative years she was engaged in civic activities. She was a playground teacher at Wilcox Lane. She served as a drum majorette of the Flagstaff Drum and Bugle Corps with her brothers, cousins, and friends. She attended Perth Amboy High School. Although not a formally educated woman beyond the high school years she was learned and full of intellect and wisdom. She loved to keep abreast of current affairs and was an avid reader. She also loved fashion, talk shows, soap operas and musicals. In 1947 she married Corporal Edward C Billings of Dawson, Georgia in Elkton, Maryland. They settled into family life in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. She began her career as a civil servant at the county government level as a girl’s supervisor at Middlesex County Detention Center followed by state government as a recreation assistant at Woodbridge State School. Oh, how she loved her clients. She retired from the State Government after 26 years of diligent faithful service. Shirley had a heart of gold. She would help anyone who needed it. She was a “mama bear” protective of her children and extended family. She was strong willed, outspoken and had a wonderful sense of humor. She steadfastly taught her children to be proud of who they are and where they came from. She also taught them to respect differences, stand up for your rights, be kind, compassionate and be of service when and where you can and to tell the truth with your head held high. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory to her late husband, Edward C. Billings and devoted children, sons, Jerome E. Billings, Iselin, NJ, and Michael G. Billings (deceased), Chicago, IL, and daughter Gloria Hancock (late son in-law George Hancock), Newtown, Pa., grandchildren Donald Williams, Plainfield, NJ and Michael Billings (Monica), Virginia Beach, Va. Great grandchildren, Tressore, Linden, NJ, London, Plainfield, NJ, Michael George, Amirah Renee and Gabrielle Grace, Virginia Beach, VA. Brothers, Harold C Lincoln, Jr (deceased), New Brunswick, NJ, Tyrell (Papa) L. Lincoln (deceased), Las Vegas, NV, Sister in Laws, Jean Lincoln (deceased), New Brunswick, NJ and Cora Sue Lincoln Young, Oakland , CA and Irma Lincoln (deceased), Las Vegas, NV., Lawrence Lincoln (Diane) (deceased), Florida, William Lincoln (Betty Jean), Florida, Frederick (Freddy) Lincoln (Yolanda), Atlantic City, NJ, step-brother Nathaniel Hutchins (Brenda), Perth Amboy, NJ, sisters, Mildred Scott (Richard), Piscataway, NJ and Dolores Anderson, Perth Amboy, NJ and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces and friends.
