Dr. Virginia E. Byrd Tryon

Our heavenly Father called his daughter home on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at 2:30 AM. Dr. Virginia E Byrd Tryon was born November 16, 1932 in Trenton, New Jersey to Estella and Luckey Byrd. After completing her early education in the Trenton Public Schools, Virginia went on to earn her Nursing diploma (RN) from Harlem Hospital School of Nursing, NY; a BA in Nursing and a Master in Health Education from Trenton State College; School Supervisor/Administration Certifications from Rider College; and ultimately a Ph.D. in Behavioral Science from Walden University in Florida (1979). As a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton, New Jersey; Virginia served in many ministries such as the Anna Louise White Circle, Ladies Guild, Shiloh Scholarship Committee, Nurses Ministry, and was instrumental in gathering information and pictures to help establish the Shiloh Baptist Church Museum. Virginia was also a loyal and devoted member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter since 1968, member of NJ Education Association, Trenton Teachers Association, NAACP, National Association of University Women, Ewing Prehistoric Committee, Civic Association, Ewing Community Club and various other Mercer County and Trenton Boards. With a never ending spirit for learning, caring and sharing; Virginia served her community as a Visiting Nurse, Public School Nurse for both Trenton and Plainfield, Public Health Nurse Consultant for the City of Trenton, Coordinator of the Mercer County Special School District – Non Public Schools, Program Coordinator at the Community College of Philadelphia, Adjunct College Professor at Trenton State College, Tutor for nursing students at Trenton State College, Social Worker for both Trenton and Ewing Township schools and Entrepreneur throughout the region. She leaves to mourn a loving and faithful husband Horace; two devoted children Pia Beth Hart (NY) and Stuart Tryon (MD); a son-in-law Douglas Hart; daughter-in-law Stephanie Tryon; three adoring grandchildren Sydney Tryon, Sawyer Tryon and Jarid Hart; one brother Joseph Byrd and sister-in-law Marsha Byrd (MD); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
