John Adams

John Adams was born on October 5, 1927, in Waynesboro, Georgia, to the union of the late George Adams and Mary Jane Salisbury Adams. He lived a life of service and radiant inspiration. He peacefully departed this earthly life on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the Samaritan Health and Hospice Center in Mount Holly, New Jersey. John received his education through the Burke County School District in Waynesboro, Georgia. After school he went to work for the Goldberg Furniture Company, in Waynesboro, where he was a devoted employee to the furniture business. On February 5, 1950, he married the love of his life, Mavis Jones and they lived in blissful harmony for 45 years until her death on November 13, 1995. To this union two beloved daughters were born, Gloria and Elaine. John and his family migrated to Trenton, New Jersey in 1964. He was employed at the Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, Trenton, NJ as a dietician and retired after 25 years of committed and meritorious service. John’s demeanor was that of a loving, quiet, soft-spoken, and generous “gentleman”. A man of faith, principle, and integrity, who made “family” his utmost priority. He was a devoted and attentive husband who faithfully and unwaveringly cared for his beloved wife throughout her lengthy illness, until the time of her death. John absolutely adored his two daughters, granddaughter, and grandson who received not only every material necessity and desire, but also was favored with his continual love and affection. Nothing brought him greater joy than that of his family. John was a renowned and extraordinary chef, whose culinary expertise was not only known and enjoyed by his family and friends, but throughout the church, his workplace and community. His delicious “Banana Pudding” was a culinary delight that will forever be savored and remembered by all who ate it. John was a dedicated bicyclist who enjoyed biking and could be seen cycling around the city of Trenton. He was an avid music aficionado who enjoyed all genres, especially jazz and “old school” rhythm and blues. Some of his favorite recording artists were Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and Sam Cooke. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and checkers. He kept abreast of local and world events and especially enjoyed watching the Cable News Network (CNN). His favorite sports teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Boston Celtics. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Mavis Adams; five brothers, Roosevelt, Bernie, George, Paul and Charles Adams; five sisters, Bell Adams, Fannie Dumas, Elease Jackson, Rallie Mells and Annie Evans; mother-in-law, Zena Gordon Walker and sisters-in-law Loretta Bell and Mattie Harris. His memory will forever be cherished and remembered by his two loving and devoted daughters; Gloria Jean Anderson (Paul) and Elaine Adams Smith both of Willingboro, NJ; one sister, Elizabeth Clark of West Palm Beach, FL; one sister-in-law, Edith Adams of Chesapeake, VA; one granddaughter, Tanisha R. Smith (Oscar) of Willingboro, NJ; one grandson Shawn Adams (Zuri) of Philadelphia, PA; six great-grandchildren, Reginald Makhi Bethea, Jr., Rajan Malik Bethea, Marcus Robert Powell, twins Jayla and Sabria, and Trasan Adams all of Willingboro, NJ; a special friend Henrietta Cleveland of Pemberton, NJ; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. His favorite scripture can be found in 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good Fight, I have finished my Course, I have kept the Faith.”
