Jermaine Eldon Bright

Jermaine Eldon Bright was born on November 6, 1971 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to James E. Bright Sr and Mary Ann Bright McCutchen. He was the middle child, having two older siblings, Lisa Paige and James E. Bright Jr, and two younger sisters, Ja'a Bright and Chanel Bright. Jermaine grew up in a large close knit family, where he was known for his jokes, charm and storytelling. It was there that he learned valuable life lessons of love, family, strength, adaptability and courage. These lessons also lead Jermaine to give his life to Christ and become baptized at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens as a child. Jermaine's love of sports drove him to play both basketball and football while attending Highland Park High School and the University of Pennsylvania. While in college, he was initiated into Groove Phi Groove, Social Fellowship Inc., where he was able to connect with like minded fellow men under the founding principles of service, honor and integrity. The combination of his passion for service and love of sports and youth, led Jermaine to coach high school basketball for some time. After working as a counselor at Job Corp in Edison, NJ, Jermaine realized he found his calling and landed his dream job working with at-risk youth as a supervisor at the Juvenile Justice Commission. His hard work and dedication paid off when he was promoted to Assistant Director. In 2002, Jermaine met the love of his life, Leah Cummings. The two fell deeply in love and could often times be seen sharing laughs together. Jermaine and Leah welcomed their pride and joy, Ja'Nasia E. Bright, into the world in February 2005. The pair solidified their love and married in April 2006. From this union, Jermaine was blessed with Leah's three children, Derek, Terrel, and Ariana Moody and brother Darryl Cummings who he welcomed with open arms. Their family was now complete or so they thought. In June 2022, Jermaine was given the ultimate gift and promoted to Grandpa by his granddaughter Aleiya R. Gonzalez. Jermaine was affectionately called the "Gentle Giant" by many because of his towering 6'5 frame and gentle disposition. He loved traveling, martial arts, dragons and was the greatest spades player ever if you asked him. He was known for his humor, poetry, loyalty, dedication, and love for his family. Jermaine was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Jermaine was surely the glue, ensuring the family stayed connected. He will truly be missed.
