Robert James Gantt

ROBERT JAMES GANTT, born June 22, 1935 in Montgomery Alabama, to the late Robert and Rosie Bell Gantt. He was one of nine siblings including Willie James, Ruby Lee, Minnie Lee, Jack, Annie Lois, Billy, Roosevelt and Lucious Gantt, who preceded him in death. He was a member of a close-knit family. His passing has left a void in our lives. Our Dad was a dedicated family man. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Dad also loved baseball. He got pleasure from watching the World Series of baseball. Mr. Gantt was Baptized and a member of the Newtown Church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama and attended Hale Elementary school and Booker T. Washington high school in Montgomery, Alabama. After leaving high school, Mr. Gantt enlisted in the United States Navy and retired with 22 years of service. Mr. Gantt was married to Minnie Kate Gantt. He had 5 children, daughter Sanjuanetta Tarver and sons Larry, Gregory, Edward and Wendell (Zulema) Gantt. 8 Grand children (Lonnie, Brittany, Brandon, Gabriella, Mia, Edward, Jordan, and Amari). 5 Great grand children (Danitra, Donavon, Amere, Ava, and Mia) and 1 Great great granddaughter Naiyla King Grays. After retiring from the Navy Mr. Gantt went on to work for Rutgers University and then to The Franklin Township School System until he retired. In retirement Mr. Gantt enjoyed spending time with his family, going for walks, and watching baseball (Go Dodgers). As a devoted Husband, caring father, and a loyal friend. Robert touched the lives of many with his unwavering love and unwavering support. His presence brought comfort and strength and his wisdom and guidance were invaluable.
