Shirley Pearl Taylor

Shirley Pearl Taylor was born on March 6, 1948, the second of five children, to the late Willie Richard Moses and Laura Wilks Moses in Columbia Mississippi. She Departed this life on September 3, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She accepted Christ and attended the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia, MS. After moving to NJ, she join the Ebenezer Baptist Church in New Brunswick. Shirley received her formal education at the John J. Jefferson Public School System in Columbia, MS and graduated from Prestiss Institute Jour College. After moving to NJ in the early 70’s, she began her employment with the New Brunswick Public School System where she worked as the Kitchen Manager up until her death. She also worked with the New Brunswick School’s (ASP) After School Program, where she established her community name “Mrs. Shirley.” She was the matriarch of the neighborhood and everyone loved Mrs. Shirley! She was a devoted wife and mother and saw to it that family gatherings were at the forefront of the family staying united. Cooking an abundance of food was her favorite thing to do. She would not just feed her immediate family, but her extended neighborhood family. Proverbs 22:1 Give a description of the name she made for herself “A good name is to be chosen rather than great wealth; to be respected is better than silver and gold.” She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank E. Taylor; her parents, Willie Richard Moses and Laura Wilks Moses; brother, J. Earl Barber; sister, Dorothy Marie Moses and two extended family and children, Steven Taylor and Wendy Taylor. She leaves to celebrate her memory, three sons, Kevin L. Moses, Sr. (Lydia), Ronell Davis and Frank Taylor (Idania); extended family and children, James Taylor; Joy Harvey, Ava Harris and Donna Taylor; her sister, Ella Ruth Moses Preston and two brothers, Willie Walter Moses and Edward Charles Moses. She is also survived by five grandchildren; Kevin L. Moses, Jr., Shamil Davis, Destiny Davis, Divine Davis and Elijah Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Kayden Moses and Khloe Davis, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10am Saturday, September 19, 2020 and viewing 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM at New Destiny Family Worship Center, 1330 Livingston Avenue #5, North Brunswick, NJ.
