Waudine Barnes Owens

Waudine Barnes Owens was born May 27, 1950 in Tylertown, Mississippi to Iddo and Rosalie Barnes. Affectionately known as "Deanie," she spent her formative years securing her position as the boss of her siblings, especially her twin, Claudine. One of nine girls and seven boys, Waudine was always known to be the sister to tell it like it is and had no problem showing tough love. It is these traits that helped her excel in this world and shortly after graduating J.J. Gulledge High School in Tylertown in 1968, she relocated to New Jersey. Waudine acepted Christ at an early age and attended 2nd Mount Bethel in Sandy Hook, Mississippi. Upon relocating to New Jersey, she continued her Christian journey at Antioch Christian Church in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She was also the treasurer for Start the Day Right, a program very close to her heart. Always a hard worker, Waudine enjoyed working for the City of New Brunswick, retiring after over thirty years of service. As an employee of the water department, Waudine became a mother figure to many co-workers and was known to welcome residents as they walked into the building. Even after retiring, she still visited and many became adopted family members. Of all her achievements and titles, her greatest and the ones that brought her the most joy was Mama to Jerry, Granny to Kayla, Bella and Gia, and mother-in-law to Jen. Waudine was preceded in death by her parents, Iddo and Rosalie; one sister, four brothers and two great-nieces, Miqhayla and Asia. She is survived by her son, Jerry (Jennifer); granddaughters, Kayla Kristine, Isabella Marie and Giavanna Rose; her twin sister, Claudine Hood (Edward); sisters, Sherrie, Sannella, Torricelli, Sharon Ellington (David), Love Mark (Sherfield) and Joan Ellzey; brothers, Curtis (Ann), James, Ralph (Gladys); a special niece, Tinisha Hood-Brister (Aaron) and nephew, Clayton Ellzey (Nancy), Goddaughter, Amari; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and special friends.
